One Masonry Crew for All of Mesquite

Ram Masonry works as a masonry contractor in Mesquite, NV, the city in the northeast corner of Clark County. It sits on I-15 about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, and its eastern border is the Arizona state line. The city spreads along the north side of the Virgin River, in the Virgin Valley. State Route 170 crosses the river south to the unincorporated community of Bunkerville. Pioneers settled Mesquite in 1880, and it incorporated as a city in 1984. The 2020 census counted 20,471 people, and the city now puts its population at 25,000. At one point Mesquite was named the fastest growing city in America for its size. Housing developments keep creating new neighborhoods, such as Sun City Mesquite, Mesquite Vistas, Canyon Crest and Vista Del Luna. Golf communities and a growing retirement community share the valley with young families. A new I-15 interchange opened land west of town to development. The town sits at 1,601 feet, roughly 500 feet lower than Las Vegas. Days here run about 3 degrees hotter than in Las Vegas. That heat shapes how we pour concrete and lay block in Mesquite.

In Mesquite we build new block walls for privacy and perimeter lines, and we raise existing walls. On sloped lots we build engineered retaining walls and low planter walls. Our concrete work covers slabs and flatwork and concrete driveways. We also lay paver patios and walkways. For the backyard we build outdoor kitchens and BBQ islands, plus fireplaces and fire pits. Inside city limits, our walls go through the City of Mesquite permit desk when the rules call for one. Ram Masonry holds Nevada C-18 masonry license number 0080771, bonded and insured, and has been in business since 2014. We measure the site first, then hand you a free written estimate.

Mesquite runs its own permit desk for walls

Mesquite is an incorporated city, so walls inside city limits are permitted by the City of Mesquite. The work goes to the city's Building Division, not to Clark County or the City of Las Vegas. The division issues construction permits and inspects the work for code compliance. The city adopted its current codes on August 12, 2025, including the 2024 International Residential Code.

Under the city's wall permit sheet, block walls and concrete walls over 4 feet high need a permit. A retaining wall over 4 feet needs one too, and its height includes the footing. Wood and chain link fences up to 6 feet do not need a wall permit. Any wall over 6 feet must be engineered by a Nevada licensed engineer.

A wall built on a shared property line also needs a Property Line Authorization. The permit package calls for two plot plans that show the wall on the lot. Before we bid, we check the rules for your parcel with the Building Division. On the walls we build, we pull the permit, and the city's fee schedule sets the fee.

The drive up I-15 to Mesquite, and how we plan the days

Mesquite sits about 80 miles up I-15 from Las Vegas, close to the Arizona line. A drive that long calls for whole working days, so we book Mesquite jobs that way. Estimate visits get grouped onto set Mesquite days, so one trip covers more than one lot. You get the visit date up front, and the written price follows the visit.

Concrete work in Mesquite gets timed around the summer heat. In July we set pours for first light and book the ready-mix truck for that hour. Fresh slabs stay damp and covered while they cure, and winter pours move to midday. A short job, such as block wall repair on one damaged or leaning section, still gets its own booked day.

What does Mesquite weather mean for a block wall or a slab?

Mesquite gets over 300 days of sunshine a year, by the city's own count. Around July 21 the average high is 106 degrees, and the average low is 72. Sun and heat pull water out of fresh concrete fast, and a slab that dries too fast can crack. So we grout block walls in the cooler hours and cure flatwork slowly.

Mesquite lacks the urban heat island Las Vegas has, so its winter nights run colder. The normal low reaches 28 degrees in mid December, so fresh concrete and mortar get covered on those nights. If a soils report came with your lot, we set the footings to it. Those cool evenings are also the season for an outdoor fireplace or fire pit.

Questions From Mesquite Property Owners

A few of the questions we hear most around Mesquite. Don't see yours? Call us and ask.

Call (702) 769-4416

Do you work in Mesquite, NV?
Yes, Mesquite is part of our service area, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas on I-15. We book Mesquite jobs as whole working days and group estimate visits onto set days. Wall permits go through the City of Mesquite Building Division. You get a free written estimate after we measure the site.
Do I need a permit for a block wall in Mesquite?
Yes, once the block wall is over 4 feet high. The City of Mesquite Building Division issues wall permits inside city limits. Concrete walls and retaining walls over 4 feet need one too, and a retaining wall's height includes its footing. Walls over 6 feet must be engineered by a Nevada licensed engineer. We confirm your parcel's rules with the city before we bid.
How much does a block wall cost in Mesquite?
National cost guides list block walls at $60 to $240 per linear foot installed, with the footing included. Height and wall thickness move the number. Gate openings add reinforcement and labor, and walls over 6 feet add an engineer's design. Our guide to what block walls cost breaks down the pieces. We price your wall in writing after we measure it.
Do I need an engineer for a retaining wall on a sloped Mesquite lot?
For a wall over 6 feet, yes. Mesquite's wall permit sheet says walls over 6 feet high must be engineered by a Nevada licensed engineer. Its permit package calls for the city's privacy wall standard or retaining wall details, and a retaining wall over 4 feet needs a wall permit, footing included. We confirm with the Building Division what your slope needs.
Can you pour a concrete patio in Mesquite in the summer?
Yes, and summer pours here start at first light. Around July 21 the average high reaches 106 degrees, so we aim to finish the slab before the afternoon heat. Then it stays damp while it cures. In winter the normal low reaches 28 degrees in mid December, so fresh concrete gets covered on cold nights.
