Paradise is an unincorporated town in Clark County, formed in 1950. It wraps around the resort corridor and reaches east toward Nellis Boulevard. Sunset Road marks most of the southern edge. Inside that line sit two different worlds. Paradise Palms sits off Maryland Parkway. Irwin Molasky and Merv Adelson opened it in the early 1960s. Palmer and Krisel designed about 400 of its roughly 1,000 homes. Those streets ring the old Stardust golf course, now Las Vegas National. A few miles south, Tomiyasu Lane holds acreage estates beside Sunset Park. UNLV and Harry Reid airport sit between them. Tract housing from the 1970s through the 1990s fills most of the rest. Paradise sits outside any city, so Clark County handles the permit. That matters when you compare quotes with a friend in Henderson or Las Vegas proper. The county requires a building permit for a residential perimeter block wall over 24 inches tall. Go past six feet and you need an administrative deviation from county planning. A retaining wall that holds back more than 24 inches of grade needs drawings from a licensed design professional.
We pull the permit and set the wall to the approved plan. Setbacks get checked before we dig, since a wall built on the wrong line comes down. Corner lots near Tropicana and Eastern often carry sight visibility limits at the driveway. Older Paradise lots sometimes hold walls put up decades ago with no permit on file. Paradise Palms homes date to the early 1960s. Many carry lava rock accents from the Hawaiian elevations Palmer and Krisel drew in 1963. Owners there want new masonry to sit quietly next to that original stone. We match block size, cap profile, stucco texture, and color to the house rather than the catalog. South and east of there, the tracts run from the 1970s into the 1990s. Around Pecos Road and Sunset Park you find caliche close to the surface. That hardpan is good bearing for a footing and slow to dig. Sometimes it takes a hydraulic hammer, and we tell you before the machine shows up. Tomiyasu Lane acreage brings long wall runs and grade changes that call for engineered footings.
