Block walls built for north valley wind and sun

Block walls line nearly every yard in North Las Vegas. Builders put them up by the mile through Aliante, Eldorado, Craig Ranch, and now Villages at Tule Springs. Most come as plain gray block, and owners call us to add caps, pilasters, or a stucco coat. Older walls near the Cheyenne and Lake Mead Boulevard corridors call for a different job. Many of those have leaned or cracked. We build new block walls, finish builder walls, and rebuild the ones that failed across North Las Vegas. Ram Masonry works out of east Las Vegas, a short drive from most of the city. We hold Nevada C-18 masonry license number 0080771, bonded and insured, and have laid block since 2014.

A wall on the north edge of the valley takes more wind than one downtown. The desert sits open past the last tract. A six foot run of solid block acts like a sail in a gust. Footing width, rebar spacing, and grout fill get sized for that. Under the wall, caliche starts at odd depths, and a footing has to reach steady bearing. We tell you what the trench shows before the price is final.

Finishing builder walls in Aliante, Eldorado, and Tule Springs

A builder wall in North Las Vegas comes plain. Gray block, no cap, and a pilaster only where the plan called for one. It does the job at the property line, and it looks like every other yard on the street. Most calls from Aliante and Eldorado start there.

A cap course gives the wall a finished top and sheds water off the block. Pilasters break up a long run and carry a gate. A stucco coat in the house color turns the wall into part of the yard. Those upgrades sit on the wall that is already there, so the footing work is light.

Newer lots at Villages at Tule Springs often close with block on two sides and open dirt on the third. The missing run goes in on its own footing and gets tied into the existing block. Grade drops between pads are common, so part of that wall may hold soil. A retaining wall with block stacked above tops out at twelve feet in the city.

Older walls near Cheyenne and Lake Mead Boulevard

South of Cheyenne, near Lake Mead Boulevard and Civic Center Drive, the housing is decades old. Walls there have taken years of hard sun, and it shows. Mortar joints open up, caps fall off, and rebar rusts through the face of the block. Long runs lean once the footing under them moves.

We check the footing before we price the repair. Cracked block on a sound footing gets cut back to a clean break, then relaid with rebar and grout. A wall that leans along its length needs a new footing under that section. Patching block over a failed footing only moves the crack.

New block reads lighter than the old wall at first. It weathers toward the same color over a season or two. A stucco coat or paint over the run matches it right away. We tell you which you are getting before the work starts.

Permits, property lines, and the owner on the other side

The City of North Las Vegas issues its own wall permits, separate from Clark County. Plans go through Building Safety at the Permit Application Center on Las Vegas Boulevard North. The city caps most fences and walls at eight feet, with front yard walls at forty eight inches. We pull the permit and handle the plan review as part of the job.

A wall on the shared property line involves the owner next door. When the wall or footing sits on the line, the city asks for a permission letter from the adjoining owner. Many owners split the cost once they agree on the scope. We put the price in writing so both sides read the same number.

If the line itself is unclear, a survey settles it before the trench is dug. A wall built onto the wrong lot can end up coming down. HOAs in the master plans often have their own rules on wall height and finish. Their approval is a separate step from the city permit.

What a block wall costs in North Las Vegas

Price follows wall height, total length, and what the footing runs into. One national cost guide lists a standard six foot block wall at $90 to $180 per linear foot installed. That covers footing, rebar, block, grout, and cap. Every wall gets bid on site, so read that as a starting point.

Caliche moves the number when the trench hits it early. Gates, pilasters, stucco, and demo of an old wall each add their own line. Block carried through a side gate by hand costs more than block dropped on an open lot. Repairs price by the job rather than by the foot.

The full build, from trench to cap, is on our block wall service page. Our Las Vegas block wall cost breakdown has the numbers, and walls holding grade fall under retaining wall builds. The footing under the wall, and any slab beside it, is covered on our North Las Vegas concrete page. Block is the biggest part of our masonry services in North Las Vegas.

How We Work

How a Job With Ram Masonry Runs

From the first look at the site to the final walk-through, here is exactly how it goes.

1

Look at the Job

Call or send the form, and photos by text get a fast first read. For a firm number we come out, measure the run, and check what sits under the job: grade, access, caliche, old work.

2

Price in Writing

You get a written price and timeline before any work starts. If a permit or engineering applies, the estimate says so. Repair and rebuild get quoted as separate numbers when both are on the table.

3

Build It Right

Footings dug to bearing and inspected, rebar and grout in the cells, base compacted before concrete, mortar kept from drying too fast in the heat. The parts you never see get built like the parts you do.

4

Walk It Together

We walk the finished work with you: walls plumb, joints full, slabs draining the right way, site cleaned up. Done means you have looked at every part of it and said so.

How much does a block wall cost in North Las Vegas?
One national cost guide lists a standard six foot block wall at $90 to $180 per linear foot installed. That covers footing, rebar, block, grout, and cap. Height is the biggest lever, then caliche in the trench and side gate access. Caps, pilasters, stucco, and old wall demo add to it. We measure the run and put the price in writing for free.
Do I need a permit for a block wall in North Las Vegas?
Yes. The City of North Las Vegas issues its own wall permits, not Clark County. Plans go through Building Safety at the Permit Application Center on Las Vegas Boulevard North. Most walls cap at eight feet, and front yard walls at forty eight inches. We pull the permit and handle plan review as part of the job.
What if the wall sits on the property line with the house next door?
The city asks for written permission from the adjoining owner when the wall or its footing sits on the line. Get the line settled first, by survey if the pins are missing. Many owners split the cost once the scope is agreed. We write one price both sides can read.
Can you add a cap, pilasters, or stucco to my builder wall?
Yes. That is common work in Aliante, Eldorado, and Craig Ranch, where the tracts are built out. A cap course finishes the top. Pilasters break up the run and carry gates, and stucco puts the house color on the block. The existing footing usually carries all three. Send a photo and the length of the run.
Why do walls on the north side of the city crack or lean?
Two things. The north edge sits open to the desert, so wind loads a tall wall hard. Under it, caliche starts at uneven depths. A footing that sits half on rock and half on soft dirt moves. Walls built with steel and grout sized for both hold their line. We check the footing before quoting any repair.
Why Choose Ram

Why Las Vegas Calls Ram Masonry

Masonry Is the Trade

Block, brick, stone and concrete are the whole business, not a sideline. Footings dug to bearing, cells grouted around steel, joints struck full. That is why the walls we build stay straight.

Built for the Desert

Vegas heat and monsoon wind punish shortcuts. Early summer pours, mortar kept from drying too fast, drainage behind every retaining wall, footings cut through caliche instead of stopping on it.

Priced in Writing, Free

We look at the job, measure it, and put the price and timeline in writing before work starts. Photos by text get a fast first read. The estimate costs nothing either way.

Licensed, Bonded, Insured

Nevada C-18 masonry license #0080771, bond and insurance on file. The license is what lets us pull your wall permit, and it covers commercial work at the same standard as residential.
